Teacher Mental Health: Teacher, Be Still – A Refreshing Breath with Jill Miller

March Madness (for Teachers) Is Real

It’s March, and let’s be real—teachers are feeling it. Spring break is still a little too far away, testing season is looming, and the exhaustion of the school year is hitting hard. The finish line is in sight, but it still feels miles away. That’s why this week’s webinar with Jill Miller was exactly what our hearts needed.

The Encouragement We All Needed

In the middle of lesson planning, grading, emails, and never-ending to-do lists, Jill reminded us of something simple yet so powerful: pause, breathe, and let God refill your cup. Teaching is a calling, but it can also feel overwhelming. The good news? You don’t have to do it all.

You Are Not Meant to Be a Superhero—You Are Human

Jill jokes about the shirts that say "Teaching is My Superpower-" If you love rocking your shirt—go for it! But just remember: you were never meant to be a superhero. You were meant to be human. You were created to be unique, valuable, and enough just as you are. You shouldn’t do it all, and you can’t do it all—and that’s okay! God’s strength is enough for you.

Practical Ways to Lighten the Load

Jill isn’t just about encouragement—she’s about real-life strategies to help teachers reclaim their time, energy, and peace. She shared powerful, practical reminders, including:
✅ Shut the door and get the work done so you can go home.
✅ Grade what you can and let the rest go—seriously, check out standards-based grading! As I mentioned, once you find the trashcan for papers that do not really matter, you feel a sense of relief. Just don't tell your principal I said that. =)
✅ Spend time with the kids—because at the end of the day, the connections matter more than the to-do list.

Bringing Faith Into the Classroom

Jill’s journey is a testament to how God meets us exactly where we are. When she transitioned from private to public education, she worried about how her faith would fit into her new role. But God made it clear: Bring Me with you. That simple nudge led her to start teacher devotions in her classroom, and it quickly grew. Eventually, she felt called to start a conference, and in the very first year, over 400 teachers showed up. Clearly, this message was needed.
